2nd New Forest North 'Stanley's Own' Copythorne Scout Group

Stanley's Own is one of the longest established Scout Groups and was founded in 1910 by Major R C H Sloane-Stanley who was a colleague of Baden Powell.  It has its Headquarters in Romsey Road, Copythorne in the New Forest.

The original Scout Hut was built in 1912 and is probably the oldest Headquarters in Hampshire still in use.

We have 2 Beaver Colonies, 2 Cub Packs and 2 Scout Troops. Explorer Scouts ,Guides, Brownies and Rainbows also use our HQ therefore we are proud to declare that over 200 youths, and their Leaders, meet weekly at our Headquarters during term time.

Stanley's Own also has a Scout and Guide Band that was formed in 1935. The Band performs at parades, carnivals and various occasions in our district. We can provide instruments and tuition to all Scout, Cubs and Guide members who wish to play in the Band.

The Scouts and Guides also stage one of the village highlights of the year, the Copythorne Carnival.  The event is held in June and has
been going strong since 1948.

In early 2006 Rhys Jones, who has been an active member of this group, became the youngest Britain to have climbed the highest mountains on all the continents, culminating in an ascent of Everest.
